When I was growing up I would sometimes read about or listen to my father’s favorite stories and characters. One of these was Lee Falk’s classic Phantom character, which began daily publication in comic strip form in 1936. While the current abundance of superheroes in today’s media and The Phantom’s costume may cause contemporary readers to wonder what his powers are, The Phantom character falls somewhere between Batman and Indiana Jones, a mortal man battling gangsters and evildoers with his fists and wits.
Although the character has jumped to other media over the intervening decades, I find it wonderful that The Phantom comic strip is still published and telling stories that have the same feel from when my father enjoyed it. The Phantom comic strip is daily and has two stories running simultaneously, the first on Monday through Saturday and the second on Sundays.
